Weight Loss & Strengthening

Julie’s Fitness Journey:

When Julie commenced her fitness journey with Outright Change Fitness her first goal was to lose weight, 14.5 kilos. Her overarching goal was to be fit by 40 and for her, this meant that she would start to exercise on a regular basis and make this part of her routine lifestyle.

Her journey was not without its challenges…she expressed at the beginning that she had at times felt mentally stuck in huge black hole and she had low confidence and no real sense of what she was capable of physically anymore. Julie had previously been a keen soccer player with a ladies team in the UK but it had been many years since she had exercised as part of a regular routine or at a higher intensity. As part of her plan she started to train with Caroline twice weekly. This plan included strength and cardio circuits. To enable her to get the most from these training sessions, Julie undertook a nutritional review with her trainer and kept a food diary which, enabled her to examine and improve her food choices and eating habits. She also focused on other important areas that would support her fit by 40 goal such as staying on top of her sleep and work schedules.

The Results:

(1) Decease of 11.2% in overall body weight
(2) Decrease in BMI of 3.4 (hip girth down by 7 cm, waist girth down by 17.5 cm
(3) Increase in cardiovascular endurance e.g. push up test
(4) Improved flexibility: Sit and reach test results improved by 188%
(5) Improved posture: Decrease in shoulder elevation by >50% (caused due to regular laptop use)

“I wanted to lose weight, initially from 84.5 kilos to 70 kilos. I lost 9.5 kilos in 7 months which was amazing and so gratifying. After a while the weight became less of a focus and just being fit and being able to complete the exercises and build strength became my main goal. Once I could start seeing how my body looked with regular strength exercises it shifted my whole perspective of what my goals were…I am stronger now than I have ever been and more confident about exercising and being inside a gym than ever in my life. The weight loss has been a significant benefit for me. Being able to do a push up and a proper sit up were huge achievements as well…Another goal was be fit by 40 meaning, I just wanted to exercise on a regular basis as part of my life and routine and I am now doing that…I now exercise at least 3 times a week, which was a goal but an unexpected benefit is I really love it now…my entire outlook in life has changed.”

“This program was perfect for me. It was the right pace and I learnt something new in each session. I loved that each session was slightly different, I have learnt so many exercises and muscle groups and I have really enjoyed that…what I liked most would be that Caroline was so patient with me. She didn't shout or get forceful. She explained everything and encouraged me in a manner that really worked for me. She pushed me but without being intimidating or making me feel like I was failing. She is the best trainer I have ever had, and I have tried a lot over the years and always ended up stopping after 3 or 4 sessions.”
